Why Should You Intern?

Internships according to the latest statistics, are the smart way college students can prepare themselves for the line of work they are most interested in. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) new college graduates who had participated in internships did far better in the job market than their classmates who had not had that experience. College internships allow you to beef up your portfolio or resume and make valuable industry contacts that can be essential to landing the ideal job upon graduation.

What We Provide

Working in an internship with Mentor2Youth is not only a great way to learn more about the Non-Profit Sector and how it operates but, also gain valuable experience that will prepare you for your career field.

Requirements
  • Be a junior-level status or higher
  • Commit to a 150 hour or 300 hour internship
  • Work between 10-15 hours weekly
  • Pass an interview and screening

Internships placements occur during Fall, Winter and Summer cycles

Fundraising Specialist

Have the opportunity to have a direct impact on growing our organization through interning as a fundraising specialist. Interns will have various projects they will work on with staff pertaining to our StandUp4Youth Campaign, seasonal fundraiser and corporate giving. Interns will receive staff support, professional development, and have the opportunity to learn more about the art of fundraising and how it impacts a non-profit organization through research.

Program Specialist

Have the opportunity to have a direct impact on the students we serve through interning as a program specialist. Interns will work directly with our youth programming assisting with supervision and the coordination at a program site. Learn more about the operations behind running a quality program. Assist with student interventions, workshop facilitation, service projects, program related events and evaluation.

Academic Specialist

Have the opportunity to have a direct impact on assisting students with staying on track to achieve academic success.  Academic specialist are the bridge between our families and surrounding schools. Interns will track student progress, update grade reports, communicate with parents and teachers regarding academic improvement and provide support to volunteer tutors in working with our students.

Project Specialist

Have the opportunity to enhance the academic and personal experiences of our participating youth. Interns will work directly with our program staff and program action team to develop and implement service learning projects and our life literacy workshop series. Projects may focus on lesson plans, events or fieldtrips that we provide for youth during our school-year or summer programming. Have the opportunity to learn more about project development, implementation and evaluation through this internship.

Volunteer Specialist

Help expand the amount of youth we serve through increasing our volunteer force! You will focus on recruitment/outreach projects working with local churches, schools and businesses to improve volunteer support for our youth programs and other projects. Have the opportunity to work directly with our staff and outreach committee and implementing effective ways to promote our organization to prospective volunteers. Create ways to engage current volunteers and new volunteers

Event Specialist

As the event specialist you will play a vital role in helping to plan, set up and facilitate events for our volunteers, youth, donors and the community. You will have the opportunity to learn the details of what it takes to plan a successful event.  You will learn more about management, marketing, event planning, fundraising and volunteer coordination. looking for management or administrative opportunities, this is a great way to acquire knowledge and skills that will be applicable to your future career.

Media Communications Specialist

Have the opportunity to build relationships with the community at-large and strengthen the brand of Mentor2Youth to various stakeholders. Interns will assist with projects focused on media marketing, brand development and ambassadorship to the greater community of Washtenaw County. Have the opportunity to work alongside staff and our outreach committee in developing and implementing effective tools for marketing Mentor2Youth to businesses, colleges, schools and local organizations.

Administrative Specialist
